29th of November 2013, post conference Rio.

After Conference 2 in Rio de Janeiro, ADU_2020 coordinators had one day network meeting to address several issues for the running PPPs, to prepare the Second Year Report for the European Union, to arrange the next NM in Seville and the start of the third and final year of the program.

The meeting was held at Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. It was focused on different aspects:

Regarding the work teams of the four ADU aims the idea was, first to define what kind of documents they intend to produce (general structure). Second, how the different elements and outcomes (conference, PPPs, workshops, visits) will be used as material for the final products. Third, how the on-going documents and strategies will be used: the work team support, questionnaires, presented papers and any other documentation that could have raised in each work team. And fourth, to end the session with a Plan of Action with assigned responsibilities and dates, all planned to be finished before the NM in Seville.

Regarding the PPP workgroups, the aim was to share what is happening among the partners: student and teacher’s interaction, trips, ADU website, etc. Also, to plan and agree the continuation of the interaction with concrete proposals in order to intensify it.  Lastly, to define and plan the production of an end product.

Finally, the coming activities were defined as follows:

First, the Network Meeting 5 in Seville, Spain, from the 28th to 31st of January 2014. It will be the last working session of the Work Teams.

Second, Workshop 9 in Santiago, Chile. The estimated dates are from the 15th to 25th of March 2014.  The theme of the workshop is denCITY. The 11 invited partners are: ES, CO, CU, CR, GT, PE, PA, GR, SE, UK and BE. The project will work on the surroundings of the metro stations in Santiago. Each invited lecturer will be given one metro station with the challenge of generating density and also to address different urban demands: heritage, poor social housing, ex-industrial, universities, sprawl, etc.

Third, the Network Meeting 6 in Panama. The estimated dates are April – May 2014.

Finally, the Conference 3 in Gent, Belgium. The estimated dates are from the 2nd to 7th of June 2014. The theme of the conference is Creative Adjacencies, new challenges for Architecture, Design and Urbanism for updating, modernizing and synchronizing the university curricula. The idea is to use the concept of “Creative Adjacencies” to integrate the topics that ADU_2020 has been working on and use them to introduce ADU questions within the contrasting different realities and localities, where diverse things meet. The point where they meet generates new opportunities, where different interesting things are happening.
